KMUTT Green Heart Team Wins Excellent Influence Award at 4th Asian Conference on Campus Sustainability in South Korea
The Green Heart Team from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), representing Thailand as part of the Sustainable University Network Thailand (SUN Thailand), achieved the prestigious Excellent Influence Award at the 4th Asian Conference on Campus Sustainability (ACCS) held in South Korea from November 30 to December 1, 2018. The award recognizes the team’s outstanding efforts in promoting sustainability, particularly in reducing single-use plastics.
The team comprised the following members:
- Mr. Siwakorn Jitthawornmanee
- Ms. Panida Intaruangsorn
- Ms. Wassana Sonjai
- Mr. Natthaphon Phatmanee
- Ms. Priyathida Srichak
Under the guidance of their advisors, the team presented a project highlighting their contributions to reducing single-use plastics at KMUTT. The presentation included:
- Policy development and implementation within the university.
- Community engagement activities to extend their impact to schools and local communities.
- Raising awareness and fostering behavioral changes to reduce plastic waste, thereby promoting environmental sustainability.
The KMUTT team’s efforts align with the university’s initiatives to reduce plastic waste through tangible measures, achieving significant results in sustainability. Their work was supported by the EESH Center, the Sustainable Activity Promotion Unit, the Student Financial Aid Unit, and various KMUTT stakeholders.
The conference was inaugurated by Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, who delivered a keynote speech emphasizing global sustainability.
This achievement aligns with SDG 2030, particularly:
- Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being.
- Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education.
- Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
- Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The award underscores KMUTT’s leadership in sustainability and its commitment to fostering global and local environmental stewardship.
