KMUTT Ranks 169th Globally and 8th Nationally in UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2018
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has been ranked 169th globally and 8th in Thailand in the UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2018, announced by Universitas Indonesia on December 19, 2018. The rankings included 719 universities worldwide, with 32 institutions from Thailand participating.
KMUTT achieved a total score of 5,775 points, a significant improvement from its 4,669 points in 2017, reflecting continuous progress across various sustainability dimensions. The university has incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 into its development framework, emphasizing energy, environmental, and safety management while promoting awareness and implementation of sustainability practices both on campus and in the broader community.
The UI Green Metric Rankings serve as a platform to highlight the commitment of universities toward becoming green institutions and advancing sustainable development. Participating universities were evaluated across six key criteria:
- Setting and Infrastructure: Campus location and facilities.
- Energy and Climate Change: Energy management and climate resilience.
- Waste Management: Handling of waste and hazardous materials.
- Water Management: Sustainable water use practices.
- Transportation: Eco-friendly mobility solutions.
- Education and Research: Integration of environmental and sustainability education.
For the 2018 rankings, universities submitted data via an online system based on the specified indicators. The initiative encourages global universities to establish policies and systems that support sustainability and contribute to mitigating climate change impacts.
KMUTT’s performance in the UI Green Metric Rankings underscores its dedication to sustainability and its role as a leader in fostering environmentally conscious practices in higher education.
