KMUTT: Learning Alongside the Community and Society

“KMUTT values and is dedicated to creating SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, allowing its staff and students to “Learn Alongside Society.” The university fosters innovation aimed at enhancing the quality of life in communities, promoting collaborative learning processes. Researchers are stationed full-time in villages, introducing innovative community learning hubs. Examples include IT systems in remote areas to ensure equitable access to knowledge and educational resources, environmentally-controlled housing systems, clean energy solutions in drought-prone areas, and integrated educational systems based on community resources to create job opportunities for local residents, children, and youth.”

The Six Dimensions of Value and Meaning: KMUTT with the Community and SocietyWhether referred to as an “Outreach Program,” “Out of Reach,” or “Beyond Reach” initiative, KMUTT is committed to working with marginalized groups. These are individuals on the fringes of opportunity, equity, and social equality. Our target demographics encompass the urban poor, rural inhabitants, mountain communities, and remote hill tribes, some of whom face challenges in accessibility, communication, and language comprehension, especially with the Thai language. In reality, our focus groups coexist within the same society as us, both close at hand and far-reaching, spanning the entire country of Thailand.

KMUTT VOLUNTEER

King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has always emphasized the significance of community involvement and the cultivation of a socially responsible ethos among its students. With this vision in mind, KMUTT launched the “Mod Arsa” initiative, a play on words that in Thai means “volunteer ants,” symbolizing unity, diligence, and collective effort.

The “Mod Arsa” program embodies the spirit of volunteerism, encouraging students to actively participate in community-based projects and contribute positively to society. Students under this initiative have embarked on various missions, from educational support in underprivileged areas to environmental conservation efforts. By integrating these experiences into the university’s broader educational journey, KMUTT ensures that its graduates not only excel academically but also understand the importance of giving back and making a difference in their communities.

Student Clubs at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT)

Student clubs at KMUTT play a pivotal role in disseminating community service activities and social initiatives to various areas. Comprising diverse groups of students, these clubs are more than just extracurricular gatherings; they serve as a platform for students to give back to society, exchange cultural knowledge, participate in sports, and disseminate academic insights. What makes these activities particularly impactful is the students’ self-management of their planning and execution, creating a two-way learning street. They not only benefit the communities they serve but also acquire invaluable experiences in return. Broadly, the student clubs at KMUTT can be categorized into four main sectors, each encompassing a myriad of specialized clubs:

1. Community Voluntary Service
2. Art and Culture
3. Sports
4. Academic

This structure provides students with a comprehensive platform to explore their interests, harness their skills, and make meaningful contributions to both their personal growth and the well-being of the broader community.

GREEN HEART CLUB

The propose of this club is created a Change Agent student by using Green University idea. A Change Agent mean a student who excellent on their branch along with social responsibility including Environmental and energy conservation awareness. They will organize an activities to promote Energy and Environment conservation as Green Society Project, Second hand Market, Smart Room Contest.

VOLUNTEER RURAL DEVELOPMENT CLUB

Propose of this club is organized “Volunteer for Rural Development Camp” 2 Camp per year KMUTT student will survey the rural area which needs a help aspect. A member will support rural area in many aspects such as build school

NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION CLUB

this club organize Environment conservation camp 2 times/year. The staff take a new coming to go to somewhere’s National park or the forest in Thailand. They will learn the natural function and how to protect or retrieve it from human destroy. Some of activity are planted tree, natural dam constriction.

GREEN BIKE CLUB

Green bike club is a large group of student in KMUTT who love to ride for a good health and reduce a fuel combustion from driving. They organize activities to reduce Energy consumption in transportation by car and motorcycle as promote to ride, Bike taxi, Bangmod- Bangkhuntien Traditional Bike Trips.

WHITE PENCIL CLUB  

This is a club that arrange 7-12 days camp in rural area for learning a traditional of each community along with give Environmental and Energy conservation awareness to children thought a specific activities.

2B-KMUTT

2B-KMUTT is a group of senior student who organize 12-15 days camp for 250-300 high school student. They arrange an activity which concern Energy and Environment research and subject that a student expected to study in bachelor’s degree in KMUTT.

KMUTT MAKER CLUB

KMUTT Maker Club is a place for KMUTT students to be both creative and innovative thinkers and inventors. Through electronics, and other textile and artistic exploration, students in the club have an opportunity to use resources available through the Learning Commons and our Makerspace. Many products produced by the student maker club have a focus on sustainable development, environmentalism and local culture.
