KMUTT Hosts “Green Heart Junior” Event in Celebration of its 60th Anniversary

On August 28, 2019, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), through the Sustainability Promotion Unit of the EESH Center, in collaboration with the Student Financial Assistance Office, hosted the “Green Heart Junior” event at the Faculty of Engineering Meeting Room.

The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thawit Phulngern, Associate Dean for Administration, Faculty of Engineering, with opening remarks by Asst. Prof. Suchada Chaiyasawat, Director of the EESH Center. Key sessions included:

  • A lecture on “Strategies for Addressing PM2.5 Pollution” by Dr. Prapat Pongkiatkul, Head of the Environmental Engineering Department.
  • A session titled “Cosmo Cares for the Earth”, led by Dr. Boonsri Sutherachai, Chairperson of Cosmo Estates Co., Ltd., and Asst. Watchararat Sunthornwanawes, who also supported prizes for activities.

Mr. Kittiwong Chinnawong, leader of the Green Heart Leader Team, along with students from the Media Arts and Media Technology Joint Program, facilitated activities focused on sustainable PM2.5 management. Participants were trained to use the iCheck device, a PM2.5 air quality monitor, enabling high-risk schools to monitor air quality and develop sustainable solutions.

The event targeted teachers and students from 13 schools within the Green School Network, with over 200 participants attending. It aimed to promote health, well-being, and sustainable practices in schools and communities, fostering a Green Society while preparing attendees to act as Change Agents.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly:

  • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – Promoting health through education and action.
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Encouraging sustainable practices for urban and community living.

By empowering participants with knowledge and tools to tackle air pollution and enhance sustainability, KMUTT continues to lead efforts in creating a greener and healthier future.
