On May 22, 2023, the Center for Energy, Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Management (EESH Center) in collaboration with the Physical Resources Management Office of KMUTT Bang Khun Thian campus organized an activity called “Volunteer Ants for Mangrove Conservation” in honor of International Biodiversity Day. Students, staff, and the KMUTT community participated in propagating mangrove seedlings and planting 700 mangroves at the new area of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Phanthai Norasing Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province.

The main objective of this activity is to conserve and restore the nation’s resources to their original state, ensuring the balance of the ecosystem. Furthermore, this initiative aims to mitigate the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions. The event has managed to reduce the release of greenhouse gases by 2,869 kg CO2. Additionally, this action aligns with the goals of sustainable development, emphasizing the promotion of a carbon-neutral project as a tangible contribution to giving back to society and our world.

This initiative supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 13: Climate Action, emphasizing the importance of limited resources and preparing for climate changes and the effects of global warming.
  • Goal 14: Life Below Water, focusing on conserving marine and aquatic resources.
  • Goal 15: Life on Land, which emphasizes protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable ecosystems on both land and water.
