King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), led by the Sustainable Activities Promotion Group and in collaboration with the KMUTT Green Bike Club, organized an event called “Zombike: Reviving Old Bicycles”. The event’s tagline was “Change your old bike to be new by your made”, emphasizing the transformation of worn-out bicycles into brand-new, functional ones.

Held on September 23, 2023, at the Green Society building, this initiative provided participants with hands-on experience in restoring and repurposing old bicycles. Every student who took part in the event was proud to have revived an old bicycle, creating their own Zombike for personal use. Participants learned about various bicycle parts, components, and acquired the skills to assemble them.

A special thanks to the KMUTT Green Bike Club for inviting friends and peers to breathe new life into old bicycles. Beyond just creating over 40 Zombikes for daily use, the event garnered interest from more than 80 members of the KMUTT community, including both students and staff. Participants took pride in gaining knowledge about choosing bicycle components and assembling bikes for personal use. This initiative aligns with the university’s vision of fostering a sustainable bicycle community within KMUTT.

Furthermore, this endeavor aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030:

  • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, emphasizing the health benefits of cycling.
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, focusing on creating an environment-friendly and sustainable mode of transportation within urban settings.
