SDGs Series EP3: “Maharak Boat Trip” Promotes Sustainable Commuting and Low-Carbon Tourism
On October 19, 2025, the EESH Center, in collaboration with SAFETist Farm, hosted the SDGs Series EP3: “Maharak Boat Trip” – Promoting Sustainable Commuting. The event aimed to inspire the younger generation to embrace sustainable lifestyles through low-carbon tourism while exploring the “Green Living” ways of the Bang Mod Canal community.
The journey was narrated by young local guides, representing a new generation sharing the stories of life along the canal. Highlights included:
- Traditional Flavors: Sampling “Khanom Khai Num,” a classic local dessert with an authentic recipe passed down through generations at Baan Pa Yai.
- Eco-Arts: A workshop on grinding natural pigments from local plants to create unique prints on canvas bags at Baan Mumin, demonstrating how nature can be used for stress relief and creativity.
- Cultural Heritage: Learning about the history of the famous Bang Mod Orange through interactive board games and knowledge exchange sessions.
This collaborative learning experience between the EESH Center, Green Heart student volunteers, and SAFETist Farm focused on raising awareness about Sustainable Transport. Participants were encouraged to use public transportation or carpool to the event. The entire canal route was navigated using Electric Boats (E-Boats)—a clean energy alternative.
This activity is part of KMUTT’s ongoing campaign for Bangkok Car Free 2025, led by the EESH Center since September. It aims to drive the university’s policy of building a participatory sustainable commuting society, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11): Sustainable Cities and Communities.
