KMUTT Organizes Tecoma Planting Activity in Honor of King Rama X and Earth Day
On April 22, 2019, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) hosted a tree-planting event to honor His Majesty King Rama X on the occasion of his coronation ceremony. The event also marked Earth Day, celebrated under the theme “Protect Our Species.” The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suvit Saetia, KMUTT President, who led university executives, staff, and students in planting Tecoma trees near the Physics-Mathematics Building.
The event coincided with Earth Day, a global effort to protect the planet from ecological crises impacting ecosystems, the environment, and human livelihoods. The activity also celebrated the 2019 Royal Coronation, uniting the KMUTT community in planting Tecoma trees as a tribute to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun (King Rama X).
In addition to expressing loyalty and devotion to the King, the Tecoma tree was chosen for its practical benefits. A robust shrub with bright yellow, fragrant flowers, the Tecoma thrives in sun and rain, blooms year-round, and is easy to cultivate. Importantly, it also has the ability to trap fine particulate matter (PM2.5), contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
