On March 7, 2025, the Toray Science Foundation (Thailand) held its 31st Award Ceremony at the Grand Hall, The Athenee Hotel, Bangkok, presenting the Science and Technology Awards, Science and Technology Research Grants, and Science Education Awards for 2024.
The ceremony was presided over by General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council, and attended by distinguished guests including Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, President of the Toray Science Foundation; Prof. Dr. Yodthay Thebtaranonth, Chair of the Science and Technology Award Committee; Prof. Dr. Pairash Thajchayapong, Chair of the Research Grant Committee; Prof. M.R. Chisnusson Svasti, Chair of the Science Education Award Committee; Dr. Akihiro Nikkaku, President of Toray Industries, Japan; and H.E. Masato Otaka, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand.
At the event, the Hospital Automation Center (HAC@FIBO), under the Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), received the 2024 Science and Technology Award (Institutional Category). Asst. Prof. Dr. Supachai Wongbunyarak, Director of FIBO, represented the research group in receiving the award.
Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yosapong Laoonual, faculty member from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and Head of the Mobility & Vehicle Technology Research Center (MOVE), KMUTT, was awarded a Science and Technology Research Grant for the project titled
“A Fundamental Study on Fire Hazards of Lithium-Ion Battery Explosions and Suppression Methods Using Fire Extinguishing Agents.”
The Toray Science Foundation (Thailand) has long played a key role in advancing science and technology in the country through three primary initiatives:
- Awards for outstanding individuals or institutions in science and technology,
- Research grants to support science and technology projects,
- Science education awards to inspire and promote awareness and excellence in the field.
These initiatives aim to encourage impactful research and innovation that can be commercially applied, thereby strengthening Thailand’s global competitiveness in a sustainable manner.
