KMUTT Participates in “World Environment Day 2019” to Promote Sustainable Air Quality Solutions
From June 5–7, 2019, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), as part of the Bangkok Higher Education Institution Network, participated in the “World Environment Day 2019” event at CentralWorld Shopping Center. The event was presided over by Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, under the theme “Beat Air Pollution: Stop Haze and Air Pollution for Better Quality of Life and Environment in Bangkok.”
KMUTT’s participation included an exhibition showcasing sustainable air quality management innovations developed by Green Heart students. Highlighted at the event was the iCheck device, a portable air quality monitoring tool capable of measuring fine particulate matter (PM2.5). The students also engaged visitors by promoting the “KMUTT 60 Schools Initiative”, an effort to partner with 60 schools to create preventive measures against PM2.5 pollution as part of the university’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
The event sought to raise awareness about the air pollution crisis and foster collaboration across all sectors to develop solutions. KMUTT’s efforts aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, specifically:
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – Promoting health and improved quality of life.
- Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Ensuring urban sustainability through air quality initiatives.
- Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Strengthening relationships with academic networks and stakeholders to enhance collaboration and preparedness for future development.
Through its participation in World Environment Day 2019, KMUTT demonstrated its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and fostering collaborative efforts to address environmental challenges.
