KMUTT Celebrates 60th Anniversary with “Train of the Trainer: 60 Schools to Tackle PM2.5” Initiative
On June 13, 2019, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), through the collaboration of the Student Financial Assistance Office, the EESH Center, and the Green Heart Team, hosted an educational event to empower leaders from network schools. The initiative, under the “Train of the Trainer: 60 Years of KMUTT, 60 Schools to Combat PM2.5” program, aimed to foster sustainable social well-being through green practices.
Held at Room CPE1104, Wisawawatana Building, the event was inaugurated by Dr. Picharn Charasanet, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and project advisor, with an opening address. The session featured a keynote lecture by Dr. Prapat Pongkiatkul, Head of the Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, who presented on “Strategies to Address PM2.5 Pollution”.
Participants also engaged in a hands-on workshop to build and install air quality monitoring devices (iCheck), designed to measure fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels. These devices are intended to assist schools in high-risk areas in monitoring air quality, devising preventive measures, and implementing sustainable solutions.
The event was aimed at creating a deeper understanding of PM2.5-related challenges among participants, while extending practical knowledge to communities and society. The initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly:
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – Promoting health and quality of life through awareness and action.
By empowering schools with knowledge and tools to combat air pollution, KMUTT reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and community-driven solutions, furthering its mission to create a healthier and more sustainable future.
