King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) joined forces with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and WWF Thailand, along with over 7,000 cities worldwide, to declare their commitment to the “60 Earth Hour 2024: Turn Off the Lights for 1 Hour to Combat Global Warming” initiative on March 23, 2024.
The event garnered community participation, with KMUTT reducing energy consumption by turning off unnecessary lights, including decorative lights, building lights, and advertising signs, as well as unplugging unused electrical devices and reducing air conditioning usage in residential and commercial buildings for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30. This action aimed to demonstrate the power of behavioral change in environmental conservation efforts and raise awareness about climate change and sustainable future responsibilities.
Aligned with Goal 17, fostering partnerships for sustainable development and Goal 13, combating climate change and its impacts, the event aimed to strengthen networking relationships and foster cooperation for future development preparedness. Additionally, it contributed to the national goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, driving efforts towards carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
