KMUTT aims to educate and develop students as “Green Heart” individuals—agents of positive change with a deep commitment to sustainability. Graduates will use their knowledge and skills to drive impactful development, contributing meaningfully to

KMUTT’s journey toward becoming a sustainable university is built upon the “Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy”, which serves as the foundation for decision-making. This philosophy guides the university in shaping graduates and staff to become “Change Agents with Green Hearts,” individuals dedicated to fostering sustainability in all aspects of society.

KMUTT is committed to being a leader in sustainability across all activities, encompassing operations, education, research and innovation, and community engagement to support both local and entrepreneurial initiatives.

– Develop KMUTT as a Green and Sustainable University: The university will serve as a model in energy management, environmental protection, and safety, establishing mechanisms to nurture leaders in sustainability-focused initiatives.
– Empower Students and Staff as Change Agents with Green Hearts: By fostering sustainability-driven individuals, KMUTT aims to support communities and society in improving quality of life, rooted in the philosophy of sustainable development through sufficiency economy principles.

In response to conserve energy and climate change , KMUTT set up sustainable energy management within KMUTT to follow the guidelines for energy conservation in designated building, promote the energy conservation and energy substitution usage within university, KMUTT is committed to

Responsibility to climate change and energy sustainability and dedicated to confronting these responsible through cooperate into all activities on campus.
Set up energy management systems including annual implementation plan, monitoring and evaluation system by continuing to focus on the participation of all sectors of the KMUTT community.
Set up the energy conservation rules and procedures and implement to all sectors within KMUTT.
Promote and create awareness of energy conservation among staff and students with continual improvement for sustainability.
50 million kg CO2 of carbon emission reduction per year in KMUTT by 2024.
5% renewable energy usage within KMUTT by 2024.
1% energy consumption reduction per capital per year.

KMUTT Waste Management Policy
KMUTT provides waste management system and encourages student and staff to reduce, reuse, recycle and proper managen ment on treatment and disposal which comply to standard practice and SDG2030. Both municipal solid waste and hazardous waste are managed according to waste
hierarchy of reduction, reuse, recycle, treatment and responsible disposal. KMUTT is committed to
1. Waste minimization and waste reduction Encourage waste source reduction by using the waste minimization and
reduce hazardous chemical usage and encourage using products that can be reused or recycled.
2.Reuse and repair Encourage to reuse equipment, materials or chemicals and repair equipment, materials that can be efficiently use.
3. Recycle Encourage to recycling of Aluminums and steel cans, cardboard, glass bottles, paper, plastic cartons, scrap metal, shoe bank, textile bank, toner and ink jet cartridges by using recyclable waste bank. Also, encourage to recycling hazardous materials or chemicals if it can be efficiently done.
4. Treatment Encourage to manage both municipal solid waste and hazardous waste in standard practices and meet regulations on waste treatment.
5. Responsible disposal Ensure disposal in both municipal solid waste, hazardous waste and electrical waste (E Waste) are carried out in standard practices and meet regulations. Ensure all waste are managed with manual and followed standard practices.

Paper and foam usage reduction Policy
According to KMUTT Sustainable University for SDG2030 University policy, KMUTT is committed to reduce paper and foam usage within the university. Our commitments are
1. Paper usage reduction by using two-sided printer and Electronic Office
2. Encourage to use Electronic meeting with paperless campaign
3. Encourage to use Electronic learning to reduce paper sheets and papers in teaching media
4. Foam usage reduction in exhibition and in all university activities
5. Promote the paper and foam usage reduction campaign for all students and staff within the university and communities surrounding.

To support KMUTT as Green & Clean University for Sustainable and make all students and staff in KMUTT to be “Green Heart “.

Water conservation policy
1. Work with our communities to develop awareness of “why” and “how” we should reduce our water consumption. Reduce pipe water usage 30 % by 2030 compared to the 2006 baseline.
3. Increase Rainwater/ Open Natural Water Resource usage 20 % by 2020.
4. Increase water recycling program from sanitary and reuse water usage in the campus by 25 % in 2023 compared to 2018.
5. Achieve safe drinking water and clean wastewater campus-wide by 2023.

KMUTT WALK & BIKE SOCIETY POLICY
KMUTT has committed to support Walk & Bike Society within campuses by
Support infrastructure and Master plan for walk & bike lane with in campus
Built Environment to promote Walk & Bike Society with in campuses and surround communities
Support walk & bike activities and promote walk & bike network with surround communities
to encourage our students and colleagues to become change agents for helping the community and society save energy, healthy and have a better quality of life.

Safety Policy
KMUTT provides a pilot model and best practice on safety management system and promote to implement the safety management system to comply SDG2030 for all staff, students and communities surrounding. KMUTT focus to expand the safety management system to make better quality of life and safety for all in the near future. Therefore, KMUTT is committed to
1. Develop safety management system in KMUTT that comply or relevant to SDG 2030 by following safety standard and guideline and integrate safety to all activities in KMUTT.
2. Implement the safety management system to all staff and student in our university and make them ensure for security, safety and health in KMUTT with safety audit and continual improvement.
3. Promote and distribute safety policy, safety rule and safety best practice information to all students, staff and adjunct staff who work for KMUTT.
4. Focus on five issues of safety including Lab and Workshop safety, Workplace safety, Life safety, Road safety and Food safety which comply to SDG2030.
5. Develop the chemical and hazardous waste management system within KMUTT and promote to use less toxic chemicals in all activities and comply the safety standard.

KMUTT’s Integrated Approach to Health and Well-being Policy
To  drive King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) as Integrated approach to Health and Well-being campus  under the 13^th  National Economic and Social Development Plan (2023-202), the long-term 20-year KMUTT Development Plan (2023-2027), and the 13^th  KMUTT Strategic Plan (2022-2026)  aligns with KMUTT sustainable policy focusing on safety management which pay attention on the health of students and staff, as well as being part of Asian University Network-Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN),KMUTT committed to support and promote participation from student ,staff  and all stakeholders to  enhance the health and well-being for all in  KMUTT. This involves fostering a campus environment that enhances health and well-being, reducing, eliminating, and preventing health and well-being risk factors as well as preparing the university’s personnel to get good health and well-being for aging society under the future changes. KMUTT establishes the KMUTT’s Integrated Approach to Health and Well-being Policy as follows.

1. KMUTT committed to develop the systems and build up environment within the university to support the enhancing of health and well-being which comply to laws and regulations, the university’s vision and mission with monitoring system for continual improvement by using health and well-being network set up regulations and guideline as follows:
          1.1) Promote integrated internally and externally network operations for health services to both students and staff.
          1.2) Develop models and processes for health promotion and well-being enhancement at both the university and institute level by using collaboration concept.
          1.3) Foster awareness and understanding of health and well-being, leading to behavioral changes in health and well-being among students and staff at all levels.
          1.4) Support and encourage research and innovation in health promotion and well-being for students and staff.
          1.5) Enhance the integrated managing mechanism for health and well-being database for students and staff .

2. KMUTT has a mission to develop guidelines for driving the policy through health and well-being promotion plans which set the goals and responsible person by using the health and well-being network to achieve sustainable goals, focusing on the following points:
          2.1) All executive levels within the university prioritize and use the  policy for  implementation.
          2.2) Establish the KMUTT health and well-being committee to set the direction for health and well-being drive in campus.
          2.3) Establish KMUTT health and well-being team and networks to make  KMUTT health and well-being plan and process on learning , awareness  and understanding activities which drive all students and staff using the system for implementation and make KMUTT to be health and well-being campus.
         2.4) Integrate health and well-being policies with other related policies to achieve the goal of KMUTT’s Integrated Approach to Health and Well-being Policy which everyone in the university participates.

3. KMUTT set driving objectives for students and staff on health and well-being promotion and support as follows:
3.1) Promote activities that emphasize on health improvement through physical exercises and better living including reduce  and eliminate the risky behaviors related to food consumption and overall lifestyle and  provide counseling to mitigate the risks of non-communicable diseases  ( NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, abnormal blood lipids, and stress-related disorders.
3.2) Promote, publicize and provide counseling to reduce and eliminate risky alcohol consumption behaviors within campus and community surround including the university activities in all area.
3.3) Promote, publicize and provide counseling to reduce and eliminate risky smoking behaviors, and facilitate a smoking cessation clinic including promote quitting smoking activities and designate smoke-free zones.
3.4) Promote, publicize and provide counseling to reduce and eliminate the risks of mental health issues, including stress, depression, self-harm or harm to others by using  mental health and stress management promotion activities.
3.5) Promote, publicize and provide monitoring system on health and well-being impacts by using KMUTT health and well-being network of students, staff and related organization.
3.6) Develop the health database system for KMUTT students and staff which follow the data management and data usage under the  legal requirements which make high benefits for all.
3.7) Promote social relationships, social and environmental responsibility including peaceful and just coexistence.
3.8) Promote the develop life and living skills, lifelong learning and maintain work-life balanced by using all mechanisms and encouraging everyone’s participation.

Institution Sustainable Investment Policy
1. Procurement must take into account the worthiness, transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability
2. Continuous procurement without adhering to the budget year (Rolling Plan 1+2)
3. The work must have a systematic connection by considering upstream to downstream processes and must deliver quality work.
4. Employees conduct procurement in a professional manner.
5. The university promotes the utilization of information system for work under the “Anytime Anywhere Anyplace” concept to facilitate the process
6. The university operates continuously and improves work processes to be more effective and efficient. It must also be ready for and accept changes, which is in line with the policy of ”being dispersed but work collectively” to reduce any delay in procurement that results in students’ loss of opportunity in utilizing learning spaces (Management Strengthening).
7. Procurement must comply with the Green University Policy, such as the selection of environmentally-friendly materials and chemicals, and the reduction of greenhouse effects.

Declaration of Intent ‘KMUTT’s Race to Carbon Neutrality by 2040’
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we are facing nowadays. Together with many countries around the world, Thailand has joined the Paris Agreement and put forward its best efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. With the strong intention of Thailand to become a low carbon and climate resilient society, Prime Minister announced at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 1st, 2021, Thailand’s commitment to reach Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2065.
KMUTT has a clear policy to strive to become a Sustainable University based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. One of the important goals of KMUTT Sustainability strategy is to reduce its carbon emissions to net zero emissions by 2040 under the “KMUTT’s Race to Carbon Neutrality by 2040” initiative through the increased use of renewable energy, enhancement of energy efficiency in building and transport, efficient use of resource and recycle and forest carbon sequestration. The committee and working group to drive KMUTT to net zero carbon emissions, appointed as a special taskforce for this initiative, now develop strategic and action plans as well as monitor and evaluate the plans to reach the expected targets. The working team will promote, support, and coordinate with all internal units and communities around KMUTT for their participation and cooperation, both in planning and implementation stage.
“KMUTT’s Race to Carbon Neutrality by 2040” will be a new strategic goal for KMUTT sustainability which is integrated with the other five key strategic goals including student engagement, research and innovation impact, community engagement, green university and infrastructure, and sustainable management. Carbon Neutrality will become a part of our working style and organizational culture. Everybody will have an understanding and awareness of the climate change and its impact and be willing to help mitigate it.
With the clear intention to move the organization forward to net zero carbon emissions, KMUTT has been invited to be a founding member of RE100 Thailand Club initiated by the Federation of Thai Industries. KMUTT has also joined Thailand Carbon Neutral Network, founded by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization and the global campaign “Race To Zero”, which emphasize that, as an educational institution, we are ready to commit to the public both in national and international networks that all the KMUTT campuses are trying to achieve net zero carbon emissions at the organizational level.
