Promoting Sexual Health Education: A Collaborative Initiative by the Health and Hygiene Service Group at KMUTT
The Health and Hygiene Service Group at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) is acutely aware of the growing concerns surrounding sexual health and unplanned pregnancies, issues that have become increasingly prevalent in the country, particularly among students. These problems highlight the need for comprehensive life skills and accessible health services to help prevent and address reproductive health challenges. In particular, providing students with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about safe and responsible sexual health practices is crucial to their overall well-being and future success.
In fiscal year 2023, the Health and Hygiene Service Group took a proactive approach to tackle these issues by collaborating with student leaders, the PATH2Health Foundation, the Rainbow Sky Association, M Health and Care Company, and the Public Health Service Center 54 (Tasaneeam). Together, they launched a comprehensive project aimed at promoting sex education and raising awareness about reproductive health. This collaboration resulted in two impactful educational events, each designed to equip students with essential knowledge and resources for maintaining safe sexual health practices.
Safe Sex Safe Life Phase 2: Empowering Students through Knowledge
The first of these events, the Safe Sex Safe Life Phase 2, was held on November 11, 2022, at the Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Multidisciplinary Learning Building (LX) on the KMUTT campus. This event offered a wide range of informative activities, including interactive booths focused on various aspects of sexual health education. The booths provided students with valuable information on topics such as safe sex practices, the importance of HPV vaccination, and how to use condoms properly. One of the highlights was the Lovecare Condom Décor Exhibition, which creatively engaged participants and emphasized the importance of protection in sexual health.
The event also featured a seminar on Safe Sex Safe Life, where experts in sexual education and reproductive health shared their insights and discussed best practices for maintaining sexual health. This seminar was an invaluable opportunity for students to ask questions, gain advice from trusted professionals, and learn about the various resources available to them on campus and in the community.
The Safe Sex Safe Life Phase 2 event successfully attracted a total of 253 student participants, demonstrating the strong interest and need for such educational initiatives. The engagement of students in these activities reflected their desire to understand and address sexual health challenges, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
A Holistic Approach to Sexual Health Education
Through these initiatives, KMUTT’s Health and Hygiene Service Group, in partnership with various organizations, is not only raising awareness about sexual health but also empowering students to take control of their own well-being. The university’s commitment to addressing reproductive health issues is integral to fostering a safe, supportive, and informed campus environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
In the coming years, KMUTT plans to continue its work in this vital area, ensuring that students have the knowledge and resources they need to navigate their sexual health with confidence and responsibility.
