KMUTT Organizes “Bike Friday: Ride to Reforest and Save the World” Activity
On February 15, 2019, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), through the Sustainability Promotion Unit of the EESH Center, hosted the “Bike Friday: Ride to Reforest and Save the World” activity. The event engaged KMUTT students in a cycling initiative that combined environmental conservation with community service.
Participants cycled to Wat Opasee and its surrounding communities to collect litter and clean the area. Additionally, they planted trees at Wat Opasee, contributing to local reforestation efforts. Beyond community service, the activity promoted health benefits through cycling and supported climate action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The initiative aimed to encourage students, staff, and faculty to participate in meaningful environmental activities and extend these efforts to neighboring communities. This aligns with KMUTT’s mission of fostering social responsibility and generating positive societal and environmental impacts.
The activity was well-received, with over 50 participants, including faculty and students, joining the event. It also supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly:
- Goal 15: Life on Land – Promoting the protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems, including sustainable forestry.
This event reflected KMUTT’s commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and environmental stewardship for the benefit of society and the nation as a whole.
