KMUTT’s E-Waste Management Initiative: Safely Disposing of Electronic Waste for a Greener Future
Electronic waste, or E-waste, encompasses a broad range of discarded electrical and electronic devices, from computers, monitors, and mobile phones to larger items like refrigerators and air conditioners. Improper disposal of these items can release hazardous substances like lead, mercury, and other heavy metals, posing severe environmental and health risks.
Recognizing the importance of safe E-waste disposal, KMUTT has joined Thailand’s WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Project, led by the Pollution Control Department (PCD). Through this initiative, KMUTT actively encourages students and staff to return their E-waste to the university. Once collected, these materials are responsibly managed and delivered to the PCD for environmentally sound disposal and recycling.
By participating in the WEEE Project, KMUTT not only provides a secure method for E-waste disposal but also promotes environmental awareness on campus. This initiative reinforces KMUTT’s commitment to sustainability, reducing the potential hazards associated with E-waste and creating a cleaner, safer environment for the university community and beyond.
Goal: 100% of E-waste in KMUTT is in proper management.
Current Status: In 2024, 100% of Electronic Waste in KMUTT is in proper management with PCD supported. KMUTT collected more than 570 pieces of unused electrical and electronic equipment with 753.2 Kg to send PCD for proper treatment and disposal.
