On March 30, 2019, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Solos Suwannayuen, Vice President of KMUTT Bangkhuntien, joined the “60+ Earth Hour 2019” event to declare its commitment to becoming a sustainable university and a model for reducing global warming. The event, held at Square C, CentralWorld, was chaired by Mr. Chakkaphan Phewngam, Deputy Governor of Bangkok.
KMUTT also showcased a sustainability exhibition focusing on energy conservation, reducing plastic waste, and promoting environmental care. Activities included a Q&A on Sustainability hosted by student leaders from the Green Heart group, aimed at raising awareness about sustainable practices.
As part of the event, KMUTT was recognized as a model institution for the Thung Khru and Bangkhuntien districts in switching off non-essential lights for one hour (8:30–9:30 PM), joining a global effort to demonstrate behavioral changes for environmental protection by reducing energy consumption.
This initiative aligns with the SDG 2030 goals:
- Goal 17: Strengthen partnerships for sustainable development through collaboration and future preparedness.
- Goal 13: Address climate change and its impacts through impactful actions and awareness campaigns.
