On March 7, 2022, Assoc. Prof. Suchada Chaisawasdi, Director of the Office of Finance and Management, National Biopharmaceutical Facility, and Manager of the Biopharmaceutical Characterization Lab, represented King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) during an interview and visit to observe research and innovation in the field of Thai herbal plants and high-value medicinal substances. The visit was hosted by the General Education Transformation Guidelines Committee, led by Dr. Khajornsak Chaiwat.

The KMUTT team, led by Dr. Khajornsak Chaiwat, and the secretariat team of the General Education Committee, consisting of six members, were interviewed and visited. During the visit, KMUTT presented its expertise in the research and development of the entire process of producing Thai herbal plants and high-value medicinal substances, focusing on increasing value at both the laboratory and prototype levels. The aim is to explore the possibility of scaling up production for commercial purposes.

The visit also included a tour of the National Biopharmaceutical Facility, the Biopharmaceutical Characterization Lab, the prototype herbal plant extraction lab using alcohol and supercritical CO2 extraction, and the prototype freeze-drying lab with a capacity of 200 kilograms. KMUTT’s experts in herbal plant extraction processes and the analysis of high-value substances from herbs, as well as engineers and researchers, were on hand to provide insights and welcome the visitors.

This visit aligns with KMUTT’s commitment to research and innovation in Thai herbal plants and high-value medicinal substances and contributes to the university’s mission in promoting sustainable practices and technological advancements in the field of herbal medicine.
