King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), led by the Energy, Environment, Safety, and Health (EESH) Center, along with the Green Heart student group and other related units, participated in the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024, held from June 10-13, 2024, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. KMUTT showcased its comprehensive achievements in sustainability, focusing on policies and actions aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable initiatives within the university. These included sustainability-related research, academic services, and the involvement of students, staff, and KMUTT departments, which have made a positive impact on the community, society, and the nation.

The Global Sustainable Development Congress is a platform designed to bring together the higher education sector, government, industry, and civil society to discuss pathways to creating a more sustainable future. This aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17, which calls for urgent global cooperation to end poverty, address climate change, and protect oceans and forests. The congress provided a space for all sectors to share ideas, policies, innovations, and success stories.

The event featured over 130 hours of interactive discussions and workshops focusing on the roles of higher education, government, businesses, and society in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, a large exhibition showcased sustainability-related initiatives led by over 150 Thai higher education institutions, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI). The congress welcomed over 3,000 participants from 90 countries worldwide and also included the highlight announcement of the THE Impact Rankings 2024 results.

KMUTT’s contributions underscored the university’s commitment to sustainability and its efforts in making meaningful changes through education, research, and active engagement within the global community.
