Assistant Professor Suchada Chaiyaswat, the acting director of the EESH center, led a team from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) to attend the 2nd annual meeting of the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand) from July 5th to 7th, 2023. The meeting, hosted by Suratthani Rajabhat University with its Vice President, Assistant Professor Dr. Wattana Rattanaphrom, acting as the representative, welcomed all members of the Sustainable University Network.

On July 7th, representatives from various universities attended the SUN Thailand meeting, chaired by Assistant Professor Wathree Rungreung, the president of the Sustainable University Network of Thailand. The objective of this meeting was to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of the network’s operations. During the event, attendees visited and learned about the complete community waste management system (Zero Waste Station), composting, and the university’s biogas production used in their cafeteria. The visit also included an exploration of the lifestyle of the Koh Paluai community, supported by Suratthani Rajabhat University’s International and Tourism College for community tourism development. All these activities align with the SDGs 2030, specifically Goal 17, which emphasizes strengthening partnerships for sustainable development.

In a related note, Assistant Professor Dr. Prasert Kanthamanon, the Vice President for Administration at KMUTT, had previously attended the 1st SUN Thailand meeting of 2023 from October 27th to 28th, 2022. Alongside a team from the EESH center, the meeting took place at the King’s Rajanagarindra Rehabilitation Center, Mae Jo University in Chiang Mai, with Srinakharinwirot University as the host. The main objective was consistent with the later meeting, focusing on the network’s continuous and efficient operations. Participants also had the opportunity to explore sustainable management systems and exchange knowledge on sustainable practices with communities. One highlight was the visit to the organic agricultural seed production learning center, emphasizing the importance of enhancing environmental quality and sustainability within educational institutions, setting an example for other sectors in society.
