King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bang Khun Thian Campus, led by the Office of Physical Resource Management (Bang Khun Thian) in collaboration with the Student Financial Aid Group, KMUTT, and the Energy, Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Management Center (EESH), organized a special tree planting event in commemoration of the auspicious occasion of the 91st birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, on August 12, 2023.

The event was graced by KMUTT executives, staff, and the Green Heart student leaders from the King Mongkut’s University scholarship program for the academic year 2023. Together, they planted more than 100 trees, including Krathing, Jik Thale, Pikul, Teen Ped, and Ruy, adding to the green spaces within the KMUTT, Bang Khun Thian campus. In addition, a significant effort was made to plant 2,000 mangrove trees, specifically the Kong Kang variety, in the new area of KMUTT located in Tambon Phanthai Norasing, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon province, on August 6-7, 2023.

This initiative was aimed at conserving and restoring the nation’s resources to their pristine state, achieving ecological balance, and mitigating the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, it aligns with the university’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions, contributing to society and our planet.

The event underscores the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly:

  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 13: Raising awareness of the significance of finite resources and preparing for the impacts of climate change and global warming.
  • Goal 14: Conservation of underwater resources and seas.
  • Goal 15: Protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.

Through such endeavors, KMUTT strives to emphasize the importance of sustainability, conservation, and the collective responsibility towards our environment.
