King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) joined in declaring its commitment to sustainability regarding its energy and environmental management systems, and participated in the “60 Earth Hour 2023” event. This year, KMUTT, in partnership with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and WWF Thailand, took part in the “60 Earth Hour 2023” initiative on March 25, 2022, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

The campaign encouraged the university community, including students and staff, to reduce energy consumption and turn off unnecessary lights for one hour, specifically targeting decorative lights, building lights, advertising signs, and unplugging unused electrical appliances, as well as minimizing the use of air conditioning. This initiative was part of a broader effort to change behaviors towards environmental conservation by reducing energy use and turning off unnecessary lights.

As a university with a clear policy on sustainability, focusing on energy and environmental management, KMUTT has declared its intention to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 (KMUTT Carbon Neutrality 2040). This goal aligns with the national ambition of Thailand to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The activities align with the SDGs 2030, specifically Goal 17, developing relationships with network partners to foster cooperation and prepare for future development, and Goal 13, organizing activities to address climate change and its impacts.
