King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), led by its Sustainable Activities team, organized the Green Heart volunteer waste management activity during the Degree Conferral Rehearsal Ceremony for the academic year 2022. This event took place on November 11-12, 2023, at KMUTT, under the theme “We are Change Agents for Our Society.” The main objective was to educate the graduating students about sustainable management concepts, encouraging them to apply these practices in their careers and daily lives. The event also included exhibitions and activities to promote the reduction of single-use plastic waste and gift-related waste, fostering a positive attitude towards waste management during the event.
The student group Green Heart played a central role in managing the waste, using innovative “Speaker Bins” to educate attendees about proper waste disposal. Additionally, the “Win Bicycle” service was provided for graduates and attendees to minimize pollution and promote environmental management from the university to the community, thus contributing to the creation of a sustainable green society in the future.
With the leadership of the Green Heart student leaders, the event was a collaborative effort with the Sustainable Activities team and supported by all university departments. The event was well-received and served as a model for future events. It successfully reached more than 5,000 people, extending the impact of waste management and sustainability practices. This initiative aligns with the SDG 2030 goals, specifically Goal 12 for Sustainable Production and Consumption, and Goal 17 for Partnerships for Sustainable Development.
