On September 14, 2022, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) participated in a nationwide signing ceremony to declare the intent to reduce and eliminate the use of single-use plastics. The event, organized by the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Development, was presided over by Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, at the Grand Richmond Hotel in Nonthaburi Province.

Associate Professor Dr. Sornsak Surawan, Vice President of KMUTT Bang Khun Thian, represented the university at the ceremony. This declaration aims to create a network and cooperation between the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and universities nationwide. It promotes a shift in consumer behavior, recognizing the importance of conserving natural resources and the environment.

These efforts align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly Goal 12, which emphasizes sustainable consumption without harming the environment, promoting policies against the use of foam and single-use plastics. It also aligns with Goal 13, focusing on environmental and energy conservation to combat global warming, and Goal 17, which aims to build networks for sustainable development.
